Are You Using GripMist Correctly? : Do’s, Don’ts & Application Tips

GripMist is easy to use, but it’s how you use it that counts.

If you spray too close, use too much product or try to set it with an inexpensive blow dryer, your results can be totally different. The good news is? Most application problems are easy to solve if you know what to look for.

Whether you’re using GripMist for a shape-up, enhancements or water resistance, these do’s and don’ts will help you get the best performance from every application.

DO: Keep Your Application Light and Even

First of all, shake the bottle well before using it.

When using GripMist, hold the bottle about 8 to 10 inches from the hair. This distance allows the spray to be evenly distributed over the area in a light mist instead of putting too much product in one spot.

GripMist is not designed to saturate the hair. Use too much product or spray too close and it can leave your hair feeling sticky or tacky and not perform the way it’s supposed to.

Not heavy. Light and regular.

Let the GripMist dry and set completely before proceeding to the next step of your service. Take your time with the drying process, it doesn't matter if you are preparing for a shape up or working with enhancements.

DO: Use a High-Quality Blow Dryer

Your blow dryer matters – a lot.
GripMist requires air to dry and cure properly, not heat. Turning the dryer heat setting up won’t fix a low air flow problem. You need a professional-quality blow dryer with lots of airflow.

Your dryer should be on a cool to medium setting. The aim is to remember to dry and set the formula. You don’t want to use too much heat and you don’t want to use more heat than necessary on your client’s hair or skin.

Also, when setting GripMist, do not use a diffuser. You want stream, controlled airflow. Not dispersed airflow for this application. A concentrator nozzle is recommended but not necessary.

However, a high quality blow dryer is non-negotiable.

If you are currently using a cheap or low powered dryer and are finding it hard to get consistent results, your dryer may be part of the problem.

DON’T: Undo Your Work With Heavier Products

What you use on your hair after GripMist is also important, especially if you are using GripMist for its water resistant properties.

Don’t apply heavy oils like coconut oil, beard oil, or castor oil after your application.

Loading the hair with heavy oils can actually work against the finished result you are trying to achieve.

Instead, choose a lightweight sheen spray to add a touch of shine to the finished style, and use sparingly.

This principle is applicable to the whole service; more product doesn’t always mean better results. Use what you need, let the GripMist set properly, and don’t put heavy products on finished work unnecessarily.
